Josef Mengele was born on March 16, 1911. Josef seemed to have a normal childhood. He was born into a wealthy family. His father was an industrialist. An intelligent young man, he earned a doctorate in Anthropology from the University of Munich at the age of 24. He continued his work and earned a medical doctorate at Frankfurt University. In 1937 Josef joined the Nazi party and was awarded an officers commission. Josef was then drafted into the army and was sent to fight on the eastern front to fight the Soviets. In the war, Josef was wounded and declared unfit for active duty in 1942.
